The waqf

How we hope Rifāq can last for generations, and why nobody takes profit from it.

How it lasts

Built to give, long after we’re gone.

The intention is to establish a waqf — or another legally approved endowment structure — that could support Rifāq through ordinary economic activity in Al Hoceima, rather than through fundraising every spring.

Rifāq is not a waqf today and no endowment exists yet. The first summers will need ordinary funding and ordinary generosity.

  1. Nobody takes profit.

Not the founders, not the people who put money in. A business keeps what it needs for wages, running costs, reserves and reinvestment. What remains goes to the children.

  2. Those who give are not shareholders.

They have given sadaqah jāriyah — charity that keeps on giving — and what they receive is what that means.

  3. Spend only what it produces.

The intention is to preserve the endowment and use its available returns to support the work.

Structure, jurisdiction and the legal form are not settled, and no funding model removes the risk of failure.

What is settled is the principle: nobody takes profit out of Rifāq.
